God Is Good

Feb 1, 2026    Rev. Erica Hall, Asst. Pastor

We find ourselves in turbulent times when everything around us seems to be shaking—systems failing, structures crumbling, and the ground beneath our feet feeling increasingly unstable. Yet Psalm 46 offers us a powerful anchor in the storm, reminding us that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. This isn't just poetic language for peaceful days; it's a battle cry for when mountains are falling into the sea and nations are raging. The sons of Korah wrote this worship song specifically for shaky times, teaching us that worship isn't always soft—sometimes it's our chosen weapon. When we declare 'God is good all the time,' we're not commenting on God's mood or our circumstances; we're proclaiming God's unchanging nature. His goodness existed before creation and will endure beyond our present chaos. The central challenge we face is learning to be still—not passive, but positioned in faith—when everything screams for us to panic. Like Israel at the Red Sea or Jehoshaphat facing three armies, we're called to put our worship before our warfare, to send praise into battle before we lift a finger. This means refusing to let fear hold the microphone in our minds, stopping the spiral of anxiety, and instead sitting our full weight on God's promises. When we truly know, believe, see, and witness God's goodness, we discover that our help comes entirely from the Lord—not from systems, not from our own strength, but from the One who created heaven and earth.
