"Take Him At His Word"

Jan 25, 2026    Rev. Dr. Kimberly R. Whitsett

This powerful message takes us to the very foundation of our faith by exploring John 1:1 and Matthew 4:4, reminding us that in the beginning was the Word, and that Word was with God and was God. We're challenged to understand that the same eternal Word that spoke creation into existence is the same Word available to us today. When Jesus faced temptation in the wilderness after 40 days of fasting, He didn't respond with human reasoning or negotiation—He responded with the Word of God. This teaches us a profound truth: we don't overcome by what we consume, but by what and who we trust. As we conclude a season of fasting and prayer, we're called to move beyond simply hearing the Word to actually taking God at His Word. The message emphasizes that knowing Scripture isn't enough; we must pray it back to God, standing on His promises when we're uncertain, weary, afraid, or confused. We're reminded that we are good soil, capable of receiving and nurturing the Word despite our past failures. The invitation is clear: whatever situation we face—whether financial pressure, family struggles, health battles, or mental warfare—we must anchor ourselves in God's unchanging Word, because heaven and earth will pass away, but His Word never fails.
