Dip Again

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor James Minnick

The story of Naaman's healing from 2 Kings 5 presents us with a powerful challenge about pride, obedience, and persistence in our faith journey. When we find ourselves desperate for God's intervention, we often struggle not with whether God can help us, but with how He chooses to work in our lives. Naaman, a decorated military commander and enemy of Israel, had a problem his position couldn't fix—leprosy. Despite his status and power, he needed divine intervention. What makes this story so compelling is that God's instructions seemed beneath him: dip seven times in the muddy Jordan River. No grand ceremony, no impressive ritual, just simple obedience. The tension in this narrative mirrors our own spiritual struggles when God asks us to humble ourselves and trust His process rather than our preferences. After the first dip, nothing changed. After the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth dips, the leprosy remained. Can we imagine the temptation to quit at dip number six? Yet the miracle wasn't in the water—it was in the obedience. This teaches us that healing, breakthrough, and transformation often require us to persist through seasons when nothing appears to be changing. We must learn to 'dip again' even when circumstances look the same, relationships remain broken, or prayers seem unanswered. The seventh dip brought complete restoration, reminding us that God's timing and methods are perfect, even when they don't match our expectations. Most beautifully, after his healing, Naaman became a witness for God, showing us that our breakthroughs are meant to be testimonies that draw others to faith.
