Hold On To Hope

Apr 12, 2026    Pastor James Minnick

This powerful message takes us into the often-overlooked book of Lamentations, where we encounter the prophet Jeremiah standing in the ruins of Jerusalem, surrounded by devastation and loss. But here's what makes this teaching so relevant to our lives today: it doesn't shy away from the reality of pain. We're reminded that mental stress is real, that hurt is legitimate, and that sometimes we don't feel God's presence even when we're doing everything right. The central revelation comes from Lamentations 3:19-24, where Jeremiah makes a critical shift—he chooses to tell his mind what to remember about God rather than letting his pain do all the talking. This is where hope begins: in the mind. We learn that our minds can either be our prison or our pathway, and we have the power to change the channel when negative thoughts invade. Just as we use a remote to switch away from unwanted television programs, we must learn to redirect our thoughts from trauma and disappointment to God's faithfulness. The message challenges us to reprogram our mental remotes by hiding God's Word in our hearts, declaring His promises over and over until they drown out the enemy's lies. Our past—whether divorce, death, or difficult circumstances—doesn't define us. Hope doesn't come from what we see but from what we know about God.
