"Make Room"
In the midst of our busiest season, we find ourselves confronted with a profound question: what do we need to make room for? This message takes us into the home of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38-42, where Jesus teaches us one of the most counter-cultural lessons of Advent. Martha, distracted by much serving—not sin, but good works—misses the sacred moment at hand. Mary, meanwhile, chooses the better part: sitting at Jesus' feet in worship. We see ourselves in both sisters. Like Martha, we fill our bags with responsibilities, commitments, and endless tasks, even good ones, until our souls become empty despite our full calendars. The holiday season amplifies this tension as we deck halls, wrap gifts, attend parties, and rush through rituals without pausing to remember why we celebrate. But Advent calls us to something different—a holy pause, a spiritual respite. It asks us not just to make room in our houses but to make room in our hearts. Jesus doesn't demand perfection; He desires our presence. When we choose to sit at His feet, to create space for worship amid the chaos, we discover that making room for Christ means He makes room for us. His peace replaces our worry, His joy overcomes our sorrow, His rest restores our weary souls. The question echoes through our lives: Are we Mary or are we Martha? Will we make room this season?
